Bookmaker has licence suspension lifted

The Gaming and Wagering Commission of Western Australia has lifted a one-month suspension of Bettingwest Pty Ltd's bookmakers' licence that was imposed on August 4, 2008.

Following representation from the chairman of Bettingwest, the Commission decided to lift the suspension a week before it was due to expire.

The suspension was a result of an investigation by the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor that found the bookmaker accepted bets on the Ross Glendinning Medal for the AFL match between Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles played on April 5, 2008.

The event was not an approved sporting contingency under the Betting Control Act at the time.
